ALLEN GUMP, SIOR, CCIM
2015-2016 SIOR PRESIDENT
My sincere hope is that everyone had a wonderful 2015 in terms of
their business and families. As I’ve traveled fairly extensively in 2015
to attend several industry events on behalf of SIOR such as IAMC,
CoreNet, NAIOP, and NAR conferences, in addition to several chapter and regional events, it’s obvious that our industry has had a very
active year and I’m grateful for the opportunities it’s afforded my
SIOR colleagues. We’ve got some tremendous plans for this coming
year and I hope you’ll be a part of it. I know I’m excited!
JOIN US IN CELEBRATING SIOR’S 75th ANNIVERSARY
This year we celebrate our 75th anniversary! This year there will be
three “celebrations” throughout the year, including our first ever international conference. All will offer great networking and educational opportunities you’ve come to expect from SIOR. And you won’t
want to leave the family at home for these because each conference
is set in incredible locations with planned events you’ll want to share
with them. In San Diego, London, and New York, you’ll be creating
memories with your friends and family.
SPRING WORLD CONFERENCE IS APRIL 13-16 IN SAN DIEGO
In honor of SIOR’s 75 years of ground-breaking service to its
members, we will begin our celebrating in earnest with the Spring
World Conference April 13-16 at the Marriott Marquis & Marina in
The conference will culminate with the 75th Anniversary Gala event
on the USS Midway. Filled with music and entertainment, our Anniversary Gala will feature great food and drinks, friends, fireworks,
and remembrances of the WW II era when SIOR began. It promises
to be a spectacular finish to our conference which we’ll be talking
about for years.
INTERNATIONAL EUROPEAN CONFERENCE IS JUNE 23-24
True to our global mission, our anniversary celebration continues
abroad with our first International European Conference in London, June 23-24, 2016. London promises to be a fantastic opportunity to travel with loved ones to Europe while earning a legitimate tax
write-off for business expenses. Great speakers like Will Kintish and
Sir Stuart Lipton will drive the momentum of the conference, which
is preceded by London’s two-day Professional Forum of the Industrial Asset Management Council (IAMC) June 22-23. This is a perfect
opportunity for SIORs to meet and greet with the IAMC membership.
Members are also planning sightseeing excursions before and after
the conference. Take advantage of the many optional tours available
to places like King’s Cross and London’s Gateway. Needless to say,
clear your calendar for June 22 – 24! We’ll be talking about this one
for years, so you won’t want to miss it. Visit www.sioreurope.com to
register and stay tuned for more information.
FALL WORLD CONFERENCE IS OCTOBER 20-22 IN NEW YORK
The next big celebration after London will be the Fall World
Conference in New York October 20-22, 2016. Our last conference there was in the mid-1980’s, so it is time again to get ready
for the Big Apple! When members gather for a conference of the
leading professional office and industrial real estate association
in the world, life-changing moments happen. This conference is
designed to take your business to the next level and exceed your
expectations for professional development. A stunning Gala party is also in the works. Registration details will follow in 2016.
LEADERSHIP RESTRUCTURING PROPOSAL IS UNDER WAY
Last year the Board of Directors launched several initiatives that will
improve SIOR for years to come. One of these is the Leadership Restructuring Proposal, born out of the Strategic Plan of 2013 and 2014.
Details of this proposal have been sent to the entire membership.
Aiming at the best governance model possible for SIOR, we focused
on the most successful aspects of our leadership structure and built
upon those features to create a more inclusive and efficient operational model. While the process involved a great deal of time and effort
by many volunteers and your Board of Directors, the much-needed
overhaul was worth it. If you have any interest in serving SIOR, this
is the best time to do it. Now more than ever before, SIOR offers
unprecedented opportunities for leadership development. I encourage
you to take advantage of these and learn more.
NEW MARKETING AND BRANDING CAMPAIGN
Another result of the strategic planning process is the new marketing
and branding campaign. Our rebranding initiatives started with the
creation of our new logo. Capturing our 75-year history in a new logo
was something extremely important to us. Using a research-driven
process, we created a new logo that represents the legacy of SIOR
with a fresh and modern look. The new brand had to capture the professionalism and best-in-class quality of our organization. We are so
excited to roll out our new materials and logo at the beginning of the
year. I am confident you will be pleased!
CLOSING REMARKS: GIVING THANKS TO OUR GLOBAL PRESIDENT
In closing, allow me to give a special thanks to Angela West, who
served as SIOR’s Global President for 2014-2015. Serving on the
Board of Directors with Angela has been a real pleasure for me these
last two years. Angela has been an enthusiastic and dedicated leader
of SIOR and will continue to do so as Immediate Past President. I can
honestly say I have learned a great deal working with Angela. When
you get a chance, please be sure to thank her.
