Supporting the SIOR Foundation Offers
Many Rewards to SIOR Members
I learned very early in my career the benefits of contributing time,
talent and money to worthy causes such as the SIOR Foundation.
Over the years I have reaped many benefits from my time as a volunteer. The greatest benefit has been sharing time and vision with
like minded souls who care about more than just transactions. Oh
don’t get me wrong, our ability to contribute has a direct correlation
to our ability to succeed in this great industry of ours.
You can contribute to the Foundation by becoming a trustee and
giving back some of your valuable time (and yes, some money) to
help us grow our Foundation, and help bring our dream of having a
Corpus of $5 Million to reality.
In the immortal words of Margaret Mead, “Never doubt that
a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the
world; indeed it is the only thing that ever has.”
If you are interested in becoming an SIOR Trustee, please con-
tact me directly or Corrine Nowak at SIOR Washington.
SIOR Foundation supports learning opportunities for members
and for future members through our contributions to educating our
members, through various Chapter and National events including
session speakers at our conferences. Our greatest legacy however,
is and will continue to be our ability to fund scholarships for bright
talented young people who are planning to pursue careers in our
industry. They are our future!
This year we have once again received significant interest in
our scholarship program with applications from 84 candidates
from over 34 post-secondary schools. As an example, the SIOR
Chicago Chapter and the SIOR Foundation awarded four scholarships for the academic year of 2011-2012 totaling $12,000 to students from Roosevelt University; Kellogg School of Management
at Northwestern University; Kellstadt Graduate School of Business
at DePaul University, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Each of the four students received a scholarship of
Requests for Chapter matching funds for local and regional programs have been on the rise again this year and I look forward to
reporting to you on our success at the Los Angeles conference.

If you’re coming to Los Angeles for the 2012 SIOR Fall World
Conference and you donated $1,000 or more to SIOR Foundation
this past year, mark your calendar for the 6th Annual High Donor
Wine-Tasting Event, Friday, October 26, 2012. Members of the
SIOR Foundation Legacy Society and donors whose FY 2011-2012
cumulative donations reached $1,000 + by August 31, 2012 will
receive invitations to attend the reception. It’s our way of saying
thanks for giving $1,000 or more this year. If you would like a recap of your donations, or if you have any questions, please do not
hesitate to contact staff at 202.449.8208 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
I am looking forward to seeing all of you in Los Angeles in
October and want to publicly thank all of our donors, and especially our trustees who have contributed substantially of their time
this year to help grow the SIOR Foundation. Joe Barna, SIOR will
assume the Presidency at Los Angeles, and I know Joe will make an
amazing contribution to the Foundation in the year ahead.
